Project Overview
Our COM 223 Small Group Processes Class was given the task of forming small groups and raising $700 for a local non-profit organization of our choosing. We decided to help out Pet Central Helps! Pet Central Helps is an animal shelter that focuses on bringing people and pets closer together. They help organize foster care for local animals. They also provide aid to those who cannot afford to care for their pets properly, but don't want to give them up.
Our Goals
The goals we set for ourselves early in the semester were to raise the promised $700 for Pet Central Helps, help the organization expand on their social media with videos and etc., and help the organization update their website with more current information.
How Did We Help?
GoFundMe
We set out to raise the funds for Pet Central Helps by starting a GoFundMe page and linking it to the Pet Central Helps page that already existed. We needed to create our own in order to track how much money we were able to raise for them.
Puppy Chow Sale

We couldn't count on online donations alone to meet our goal. To fund raise, we set up a food table on campus to sell puppy chow to students and raise awareness for Pet Central Helps.

Our Group and Roles
Carly
Recorder
Carly was responsible for keeping group meetings organized and focused by writing up agendas each week. She also kept a tally on what was discussed in our minutes google doc.
Karen
Liaison
Karen was our liaison. She was in charge of all communications with Pet Central Helps and our professor throughout the semester. This made things simpler for both parties instead of having everyone talking to everyone confusion.
Nick & Ben
Treasurers
Nick and Ben were our treasurers. They were both in charge of funds raised throughout the semester and money spent on fund raising events (i.e. puppy chow ingredients).
Luis
Historian
As the historian, Luis was responsible for keeping copies of important conversations between us and Pet Central Helps and submitted documents like our project proposal/mid-project assessment. He also created some flyers for our puppy chow sale.
Jeff
Photographer/Video Recorder
Jeff didn't take one of the 6 formal roles that already existed for us. Being the 7th member, we had to assign a new role for him. He fit in well as our photographer/video recorder. He took the pictures of the puppy chow sale featured here!
Wes
Webmaster
Wes had the webmaster role and was responsible for creating this portfolio showcasing everything we did this semester.
